Giving for Good

May 15, 2013

JHE’s culture is one filled with hard work, passion and dedication. So it is no surprise that the 80-person team is just as passionate about helping others as they are in their day-to-day jobs.

With the success of “25 Days of Service” in 2012, JHE decided to extend its charitable efforts and create the “Giving for Good” program. Each month, employees choose a charitable cause close to their hearts for the entire team to support.

“The people at JHE are what set us apart,” says executive vice president and chief marketing officer Michael Verlatti. “It’s incredible what our team can do when they work together for both our clients and those in need.”

So far in 2013, JHE has supported four charities. The “Giving for Good” program kicked off with JHE helping to sort, inspect, box and stock donations at the Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina. Led by Carrie Ryan, 15 team members donated a total of 46 hours saving the charity $920 in paid labor.

In March, last year’s “JHE Gives Back” award recipient, Ashley Dempsey, chose the Hospice and Palliative Care organization to benefit from the company's charitable efforts. Employees braved the cold weather to help landscape, wash windows and power wash sidewalks at the Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, N.C.

In April, the team returned to the Wings of Eagles Ranch in Concord, N.C., for the second year in a row. Twenty-eight employees built a wheelchair-accessible ramp for the center’s zip line, repaired the tree house and climbing wall, and helped with general upkeep around the camp. In six hours, JHE employees completed what would have taken a year for the ranch staff to do, which operates solely on the generosity of volunteers, to do.

This month, Leigh Ann James and Carrie Ryan hosted an American Red Cross blood drive at the JHE office. Twenty-three people donated, six of who were first-time donors. A total of 21 pints of blood were collected and 63 lives will be saved.
