Giving for Good: American Red Cross

May 22, 2014

Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood which is why Carrie Ryan organized the annual JHE Production + American Red Cross Blood Drive Wednesday, May 7. The Giving for Good event was a part of the nonprofit organization’s “Race to Save Lives” program which is aiming to save more than 600 lives.

Ryan, who has led the event for two years, tries to donate blood every eight weeks at the American Red Cross Huntersville Donation Center. “I think it’s a pretty easy way to give back,” she said.

Seventeen employees and family members visited the mobile blood unit and donated blood which will result in saving 51 lives.

Always a competitive group, Ryan added awards to this year’s donations. Kristin Thompson won “Fastest Donation Time” at 4:05 and Dan Mott won “Highest Iron Count” at 15.1.

“I am so grateful for everyone that donated,” said Ryan. “The American Red Cross is an amazing organization. I’m glad we’re able to help them achieve their goals while helping those in need.”
